Hajj is a spiritual journey; however, it is also a physically demanding one. Ensuring you carry out appropriate health and safety precautions will ensure you have a comfortable and fulfilling pilgrimage.

Firstly, here are some recommended health tips for a smooth Hajj experience.

  • Hydration & Heat Protection: Saudi Arabia is an extremely hot climate in which dehydration and heatstroke are fairly common. Ensure you have a water bottle and drink plenty of fluids throughout the day. It is also recommended to wear a hat and sunscreen. For extra protection. Also, try to take regular breaks in shaded areas.
  • Nutrition: Keep your energy levels up by eating balanced meals, while prioritising proteins, fibres and complex carbs.
  • Hygiene: Make sure you wash your hands often with soap to prevent infections. Pack essential toiletries such as hand sanitiser, wet wipes and tissues.
  • Clothing & Footwear: Ensure you wear loose, comfortable clothing to keep you feeling light and fresh. Also ensure you wear comfortable and breathable footwear to avoid blisters and infections.
  • Medications: Pack essential medications along with a copy of the prescriptions. Ensure you monitor your health regularly if you have Diabetes or other health issues.

Now that you’re prepared for maintain your health, Safety is another key factor of fully ensuring your Hajj journey is a pleasant experience.

  • Stay Close: Hajj is a busy time of the year and the huge crowds can be very overwhelming. Always ensure you stay close to your group and arrange meeting points in case you get separated. If you’re travelling with children, do not let them out of your sight as they can get lost easily in the crowds, especially during Tawaf and Jamarat.
  • Emergency Contacts: Keep a list of all emergency numbers separately from your phone in case it gets lost. Keep contact numbers for your group leader, hotel, and local authorities and also travel provider.
  • Be Cautious: Keep valuables secure and avoid carrying large amounts of cash with you. Due to overcrowding during rituals things can unfortunately go missing.
