A Guide to Making Long Haul Flights More Comfortable

So you have booked your holiday and you can’t wait to get there but first you have to survive a dreaded long haul flight. Whilst it is not something that anyone really looks forward to, there are ways to make the trip more pleasant so that you arrive at your destination relaxed and ready to go.

Choose your seat wisely

The first thing you need to do before you even step on the plane is to think about your seat as it is where you are going to be for a long time. If you want the option to move around and have easier access to the toilets, go for an aisle seat and if you want a bit more room to stretch your legs, go for an exit row.

Wear comfy clothes

You may want to step off the plane looking stylish but it is better to favour comfort over fashion as you have to stay in the same clothes for hours. Choose loose fitting clothes and opt for layers as the temperatures on flights can vary and make sure your footwear is something that allows a little room as feet tend to swell on long plane journeys.

Take some sleeping aids

Some people like to block out the majority of the journey with some shut eye but this is not always the easiest thing to do on a noisy plane. So invest in some tools to help assist you into a peaceful slumber such as an eye mask, earplugs and a trusty travel pillow. These simple items will make a big difference to your quality of sleep on your trip.

Eat and drink smart

It may be tempting to hit the in-flight free driunks to enjoy your journey more but make sure if you are also getting enough H20. Buy a big bottle of water before you board and keep yourself hydrated as planes can be notoriously dry. When it comes to food, ensure that you eat meals or snacks that offer slow releasing energy and don’t overload on heavy, stodgy food that is likely to make you feel sluggish and worse as the hours pass by.

Enjoy some me time

A long haul flight forces you into situation with a lot of time on your hands so why not make the most of it. You could finally get round to reading that book you haven’t had time to start, you could reconnect the simple joy of completing a puzzle book or you could kick back and watch some in flight movies. After all the flight itself is part of your holiday so try to enjoy every aspect.
